AAA held its second expert panel discussion at Kingsgrove Community Centre. The event
was attended by 120 community leaders and individuals. Kirsten Andrews and Alison Rahill
were the MCs The Hon. Tony Burke, spoke on multiculturalism and the importance of
advocacy networks such as AAA. Dr Tim Soutphommasane (Race Discrimination
Commissioner), provided an in depth discussion on section 18C. After a question and
answer session, the second half touched on the issue of the lack of diversity in commercial
media in Australia. Aisha Amjad (Vice President for Women in Film and Television NSW),
spoke about the lack of diversity in commercial television. Joy Hopwood (Former Playschool
presenter), spoke about the advocacy work she is doing together with the Media and Arts
Alliance and Nicholas Brown (Indian Australian Actor), spoke about his journey and
challenges.
